The computing resources available to our research are listed below
(current tally: 98 processors).
The total hard disk storage space in our group amounts to four terabytes.
Local (group use only):
- AMD Athlon MP (1.2GHz) server; Athlon (1.4GHz), Athlon XP (1800+, 2000+, 2600+, 3000+, 3200+), Intel Pentium 4 (3.0GHz) and Intel Xeon (2.4GHz) workstations, all running SuSE Linux.
The server is equipped with 480GB of RAID storage.
- Elektra: Intel Xeon 2.0A Linux cluster (32 processors).
Usage instructions
Consists of 16 dual Xeon machines (2.0GHz, 512kB L2 cache) with
1GB PC800 RDRAM; the machines are connected via a private network.
The master node is equipped with 108GB + 800GB of RAID storage, with an
additional 600GB distributed over the slave nodes.
Generously donated by Intel Corporation.

- Minotaur: AMD Athlon MP Linux cluster (8 x 1900+ and 16 x
2800+).
All machines are equipped with 1GB PC2100 DDR memory.
This cluster is now merged with the Elektra cluster.
- Hera: Intel Xeon Linux cluster (30 processors: 16 x Xeon 3.06GHz;
4 x Xeon EM64T 3.0GHz; 10 x Xeon EM64T 3.4GHz).
Rack containing 15 dual Xeon machines, partly donated by Intel
Corporation. All nodes have 1GB memory and are connected via a private Gigabit
network. The master node is equipped with 1TB of RAID storage.
External:
- Turing cluster:
A 640-node Apple Xserve cluster (1280 G5 processors).
Equipped with Myrinet.
- Computing clusters at NCSA: We utilize both Tungsten and Mercury, which are among the fastest
supercomputers in the world.
